Get Your Yard Ready for Spring
While different climates around the country will have different needs in the spring, everyone can put in a few hours of work to get their yards ready for the season. But what are the first steps, and what do you need to do to ensure your lawn, trees and garden will be healthy once winter is over? Here are a few tips.
Rake the lawn
Before your grass begins to grow again, give your lawn a good rake. It will remove any dead grass or leaves in your yard and give your grass a healthy beginning in the spring. It doesn't have to be thorough; just a quick run of the rake over your lawn will help.
Reseed
If there are any bald patches of grass in your yard, now is the perfect time to sow some seed. Just a small handful of grass seed will be enough to fill in the bare areas. Seeding in the spring means taking advantage of the warm weather and the increased rainfall for a fuller lawn.
Pull weeds
Take a look at your flower beds. Are there weeds just coming up? Make sure to pull them now so that the beds will be closer to ready when it comes time to plant.
Check your equipment
Before spring gets into full swing, check your lawn equipment. Specifically, make sure your lawn mower is in good repair and the blades are sharpened. You can also look at your other tools, such as your edger and blower, and ensure everything is in good working order.
